My Approach

“Will it always have to be this way? I don’t know how much more I can take.” This is a statement I hear often from clients when they first come to me. Holding hope for clients until they are able to hold it for themselves is a calling I feel honored to provide. My ideal client is one that has experienced trauma or crisis in their life, usually with their family of origin, struggles in relationships, has experienced anxiety, abandonment, or emotional, verbal, or spiritual abuse. Many times clients say to me they feel like they were not made to fit in this world or no one understands them.
The space I like to create with clients is one of warmth, compassion, empathy, and one of non-judgment. It’s important that I am able to connect with clients so they feel trust and safety while working together. I have a very flexible schedule and offer daytime, afternoon, evening, and weekend appointments.
I tailor my approach to meet my clients right where they are and use the methods that make most sense to them. I have been a patient of therapy for many years myself, being a complex trauma and cancer survivor. I believe my own experience helps me to connect with clients and provide empathy and support through the healing journey.

"I have been in counseling for many years and I have never had such a great experience. My two sessions I’ve had so far have had more value than a year’s worth of counseling elsewhere. I cannot say enough good things!"

“C” (Current female client)

"She has great insight and is able to meet you right at your level of need."

“N” (Mom of Adolescent Client)

"I have had many opportunities to have conversations with Jenny that covered a broad range of counseling topics and concerns. Jenny has amazing insight and wisdom. You are in excellent hands in her care."

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Pastoral Counseling?

The goal of pastoral counseling is to help an individual think biblically about their current struggles in the context of a confidential, caring environment. A pastoral counselor relies on Scripture as the sole authority for faith and conduct and recognizes that lasting change is the result of the power of God, the grace of Christ, and the indwelling of ministry of the Holy Spirit.

Guided by biblical principles, the counselor’s role is to utilize questioning, empathetic support, problem definition, reflection/reading assignments, encouragement, and prayer to provide wise, biblical, and faithful counsel to those who are hurting and in need. Pastoral Counseling is not a professional service and Jenny Miller is not a licensed provider. There will be no attempt to render a psychological evaluation or diagnosis.

How much does Pastoral Counseling cost? Do you take insurance?

Jenny is not able to bill insurance. She offers an out of pocket rate. Please contact her directly for rates. These vary on type, length, and day of appointment. Jenny accepts all major credit cards, check, or cash. Payment is expected at the time services are rendered.

What can I expect?

When you make an appointment with Jenny, you will be asked to fill out an intake form prior to your appointment. These questions only help Jenny to know your background, presenting problem, any symptoms you are having, and previous counseling experiences. This information is kept completely confidential. You will also be asked to sign an informed consent explaining what Pastoral Counseling is and what it is not.

During the first session, Jenny will go over your intake form with you and allow you to discuss your presenting problem(s) and what brings you to seek counseling. Jenny uses a holistic and multi-faceted approach to counseling but all are structured with establishing goals and objectives for your counseling experience. Some of these include using solution-focused, mindfulness, insights from psychotherapy, psycho-education, and cognitive behavioral approaches. With establishing and periodically reviewing your goals, you will know where you are headed and will be able to measure your growth and healing.
